A majority of network marketing companies pass off a very dangerous half-truth to their distributors. It goes something like this, "Anyone can do this network marketing business!" This idea is also implied in blanket statements like this one, "Make $20,000 a month in just 2 years!" This would lead anyone to believe that in just two years, they can go from zero to hero, regardless of their experience, skill sets, and financial status.

The simple fact of the matter is this, not all network marketers are created equal. All mlm distributors enter the race at different starting points, and some are definitely closer to the finish line than others. Some people have enormous head starts on others in terms of experience, skills, time, and money, and just because some people were able to successfully hit $20,000 a month in just two years doesn't mean that everyone will accomplish this.

The problem lies with network marketing companies pumping up their distributors to believe that anyone can immediately jump right into their business and achieve the same results as the big mlm players. What these network marketing newbies aren't told by their uplines, sponsors, or companies, is that often times the big, top money earners move from company to company. When this occurs, they pile all of their experience, their marketing system, their huge guru status, as well as a big portion of their downline into a U-haul and move everything with them. This makes it very easy for them to start earning massive commission checks almost immediately with their new mlm company.

And all the poor beginners hear about is how this brand new, wet behind the ears, distributor has soared from making nothing to $30,000 a month in less than six months time, and how they can do it too! They fail to realize that behind this person's rapid rise to mlm stardom is years of experience, thousands of dollars in expenses, countless hours of hard work, and often times extensive backgrounds in sales and marketing.

For example, what if someone like a stay-at-home mom, a fireman, a car mechanic, or a construction worker wants to start their own home based business? Do you think they'll see the same kind of results in the same time period as the successful network marketing professional? I highly doubt it. It's really absurd to think that everyone in network marketing is on a level playing field, because this simply isn't the case.

There are several factors that contribute to how fast brand-new mlm reps can start making the big bucks, with the first one being skills. The most important skills that a newbie can master are sales skills. Because when distributors are involved with a top mlm company, they're involved with selling things to people. Network marketing and sales go hand in hand, contrary to what your company and upline might have their distributors believing. Sales skills can definitely be learned by anyone who wants to. It's not a magic ability that people are born with.

The second factor is the amount of time they can put into their business. To be successful, distributors need to invest at least 8-10 hours of pure action time every week. This is the bare minimum! It would be better if they could spend 12-15 hours a week, but everyone's situation is different. Some successful mlm distributors don't have day jobs, so they can work on their business full time, while others have to go to work everyday. Ultimately it comes down to how well distributors manage their time.

The third factor is the amount of money that can be spent on their business. Often times network marketing companies mislead their distributors by telling them that all they'll need to pay for is the initial start-up fee, and their mandatory monthly product orders. They fail to teach them that an ongoing monthly marketing budget is absolutely essential for running their business at full potential.

They will need this money to generate qualified mlm leads, or mlm prospects to help grow their business. There are really only two ways for distributors to obtain their own leads, they can generate them using their own advertising, or they can pay someone to do this for them. Ultimately they should strive to generate their own network marketing leads, but purchasing them from someone is a really quick way to get started. Good leads are the lifeblood of any successful mlm business, and without them even the best mlm distributors will fail.

By creating or synthesizing ideas, you will be able to create a niche for yourself, which should be the goal of every business. You can even find something that is good already but has important points missing from it and even make these improvements your base for growth.

Know your customers. There is a saying in America, and it goes something like this, "The customer is always right." However, consider this saying from Japan: "The customer is God." This is a little carried away but can help you understand the importance of customers for your self. No matter which saying you believe to be more accurate, you must treat yours and others customers like they are the most valuable persons in your business life.

After all, it is they that make it possible for you to make a living. It is only proper that you treasure them and that you look out for them, within reason. Study your customers. Try to put yourself in their shoes, anticipate their concerns, and provide for what they want and need.

Undercommit, but over-perform. Amaze people with the level of service you offer, or the quality of the goods that you sell. Just being two or three percent better than your competition can make the difference between being poor and fair or good and excellent.

Exert all reasonable efforts to exceed their expectations. If they want something done by tomorrow, have it done by this afternoon. If they expect a bill of a hundred dollars, give them one for just ninety-five dollars if you can.

If they look like good potential customers for the future, a small profit or tiny loss now can be a lifelong customer and even friend as time goes by in the long run. If they drive you nuts with constant petty drivel though, it's better to let them go and wait a little longer for a good customer.

By doing things a little better than everyone else, your customers will come to associate you with excellence. And who doesn't want to do business with someone excellent? A nice natural high.

Running a home business is fraught with risk, but it can also be a vehicle for huge rewards. By studying yourself and your business, and by offering excellent service and advice, you will have a recipe for success. Ignore your fears, implement your positives first and take the plunge – you'll be glad you did.

If you're currently involved with a network marketing company or if you've ever been involved with one in the past than I can almost guarantee you that you've heard this whopper of a lie at one of your Thursday night hotel meetings: "Everyone is your prospect!" Or maybe it sounded something like this: "Everyone wants this, they just don't know it yet!"

This blatant lie has some network marketers talking to everyone within a three-foot radius of them about their awesome business opportunity. Whether it's a college student waiting tables at The Olive Garden or if it's a middle-aged cashier working the register at your local gas station, they all want in on your business! Listen to that nonsense! And to think this hogwash is passed off as an effective recruiting technique by network marketing companies to their distributors.

People wonder why network marketing has such a negative reputation. I can't imagine why. Maybe it's because these pre-historic methods of recruiting have placed network marketers on the same level as that one bum outside your gas station peddling "real gold chains." It's hard to take him seriously when he's offering you a "piece of jewelry" for only twenty bucks. The same can be said for network marketers who try to recruit anything that moves and breathes into their down-lines.

Here's the truth of the matter. In network marketing, everyone isn't your prospect. This might be hard to swallow, but it's true. Everyone doesn't have what it takes to run their own business and be an entrepreneur, and some people just don't want to! Some people really enjoy waking up and going to work, and some people have all the money that they'll ever need. Whatever the reason might be, you shouldn't spend your time and energy trying to convince anyone to become involved with your business. Because no one is worth your time until they've shown an interest in what you're offering.

I can bet dollars to donuts that you've all targeted that "perfect mlm prospect." That special someone who upon joining your business will explode your downline. This person just got layed off, has tremendous social skills, knows all the right people, and would be an absolutely perfect fit for your business. Sure, you could potentially approach them, but they're not worth spending any quality time on until they're seeking a solution to their problem.

If you decide to approach your prospect this way, it shows them that you're the type of business person who isn't professional or successful enough to invest in some respectable marketing methods. You're advertising yourself and your business in a very amateur way. Again, this gets into the whole issue of all the negativity surrounding the industry, and why distributors aren't taken seriously by their prospects.

It really boils down to this. You can't chase down prospects, and give them a feverish sales pitch about your latest business opportunity. It just won't work, because this method screams desperation! Your prospects will view you as an unprofessional nuisance. In network marketing this isn't a good image to have. Who finds who first is very important. When your prospect finds you and seeks your professional opinion, you're viewed as the expert. Positioning yourself this way is definitely one of the keys to successful recruiting.

It just doesn't make any sense to headhunt and force-feed prospects who aren't the least bit interested in what you have to offer. (Crazy as that may sound) There are lots of people in the world that want to start their own business, and the people you should be spending your time with are the ones who go out of their way looking for a way to do this.

Like all profession, being a mortgage broker must have your passion. You dont just decide to put up a mortgage brokerage company simply because it made your friend filthy rich. The real estate industry may have room for more brokers, but it certainly is not for everybody. What your friend may be good at, you probably wont be.
