Things To Consider When Starting A Franchise

There are a number of questions an entrepreneur should ask himself before buying a franchise. As with any new business venture, you should carefully weigh all your options before starting a franchise. This article will cover some of the many issues that should concern a potential franchisee.

Financial Considerations

First and foremost, do you have the necessary financial resources to buy a franchise? If the answer is "no," you will need to decide where you will get your start-up capital. Should your initial financing be proven insufficient, do you have alternate financing resources? These could include friends and relatives who might be able to lend you money. You should also be prepared to make financial sacrifices in order to get your new business off the ground.

The potential loss of company benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans should be significantly outweighed by the monetary and self-satisfaction rewards that you anticipate receiving from your franchise business. Additionally, you will need enough money in savings to provide you and your family a one-year "cushion." This allows your business a one-year period to break even. Most new businesses do not break even for at least one year, and franchises are no exception. You need to be aware of this fact. And, for this reason, you will also need to decide whether you will retain your current occupation while your franchise is in this pre-profit stage.

In preparation for buying a franchise, you should compile a written balance sheet that details all of your assets and liabilities including liquid cash.

Finally, if applicable, your spouse should be in total agreement with your business plan. Starting a business is a difficult task to undertake - one that requires the support of friends and family. Your spouse should be fully apprised of the financial challenges that can be involved with buying a franchise business, and he or she should be willing to take on these challenges.

Personal Considerations

Starting a new business involves long hours and countless administrative duties. You and your spouse should be certain that you will be physically and emotionally capable of handling this. Potential franchisees also need to consider who else will be affected by their long working hours. For example, do you have small children who will be negatively impacted by your frequent absence?

After thorough research on your selected franchise, you should be reasonably certain that it is a business you will enjoy operating for a number of years - or even until retirement.

Anyone considering buying a franchise needs to realistically asses his own personality. Do you enjoy working with others? Do you have the skill sets necessary to work effectively with a franchisor as well as your employees and patrons? After answering these questions yourself, consider asking friends and family for their truthful answers.

Another important question many aspiring business owners may overlook is this: Is there someone who is both willing and able to run the business should you become incapacitated by illness or anything else?

Business Considerations
Do you have previous experience in the industry of the franchise you wish to purchase, and, if not, have you considered working in this type of business before committing to buying a franchise?

You should conduct copious independent research once you have selected a franchise. You'll want to look at things like the background and experience of the franchisor and whether the product or service you aim to sell has a market in your area. In addition to whether a market currently exists, you'll want to consider what that market will be like in five years time. You should also research what competition (if any) exists in your proposed territory. Your research should include competing franchise and non-franchise businesses.

Other Considerations
You must perform the essential task of preparing a business plan for your selected franchise that details all your research and projections.

Keep in mind that you will need the help of other professionals such as a franchise attorney who can evaluate your franchise contract and (once you open your business) an experienced accountant who can help you maintain accurate financial records.

Information to obtain from the franchisor
Once you become interested in a specific franchise, there is a wealth of information with which you should ask the franchisor to provide you.

For example, will your franchise agreement give you an exclusive territory for the length of the agreement, or will the franchisor be permitted to sell additional franchises in your area? Will you be given the right of first refusal in adjacent territories? You will need to determine whether the franchisor will sublet space to you or assist you in selecting a location for your franchise.

You should find out if you will be required to lease fixtures, signs or equipment from the franchise, and, if so, whether the prices are reasonable. You should ask whether the franchisor provides in-house financing and what the terms are. Additionally, find out whether any fees beyond those discussed in the offering circular are required of franchisees.

Consider what information you've received and how forthcoming the franchisor has been with that information. Have you been given data on actual, average or forecasted sales, profits or earnings? Have you been told the success rates of other existing franchisees, and was the franchisor willing to provide you with their names and locations? Refusal or reluctance to provide this type of information is often a red flag.

Once all of these issues have been addressed, and you still want to move forward, there are still more questions that you as a prospective franchisee should have answered:

For example, are there any variances permitted by the franchisor in franchise agreements. If so, what is their nature? You need to find out if you'll be compensated for the goodwill you build into the business if you decide to sell your franchise back to the franchisor under the right of first refusal.

When you open for business, will there be any restrictions on what items you may sell, and, if so, what are they? You'll need to find out whether you'll be able to use any federally registered trademarks, service marks, trade names, logotypes and/or symbols that the franchisor may possess without reservation. If not, you should have a clear understanding of what the applicable exceptions and conditions are. You should also ask whether the franchisor owns patents or copyrights on equipment you'll be using or products you'll be selling. Additionally, find out whether any endorsement agreements with celebrities are in place for advertising purposes and what the terms of those agreements are.

Consider the franchisor's reputation. Is it one of honesty and fair dealing? Has the franchisor met all the requirements of FTC and state disclosure laws? And, do you feel that the franchisor has investigated you thoroughly enough to be reasonably certain that entering into a franchise agreement with you will be mutually beneficial?

Final Thoughts

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list of research topics, and you may find that there are questions unique to your situation that need to be answered.

The bottom line is this: On the day that you sign your franchise agreement, you should feel confident that all your questions have been satisfactorily answered, and all your concerns have been adequately addressed.

Is a Gym Franchise Opportunity for You?

Once you've done the research and decided that buying a franchise is the right business opportunity for you, the next step is choosing a franchise. But with so many franchises available in so many different industries, how do you narrow down the selection? First, think about your personal interests. No one wants to run a business he finds uninteresting. For example, if you hate math and crunching numbers, an accounting franchise probably isn't your best bet. Instead search for businesses that you think would be fun to manage.

One such type of business is a gym. The American fitness craze is definitely here to stay. With $14.8 billion in revenue reported in 2004 and 41.3 million registered health club members as of January 2005, this industry offers franchisees the opportunity to get a slice of a very big pie. If you, like so many other Americans, are a happy passenger on the fitness bandwagon, a gym franchise might be the ideal business venture for you.

Gyms in the Franchise 500

If you do decide on a gym franchise, of course you'll want to choose one that has a good reputation for financial performance and franchisee satisfaction. A great tool to help you identify these franchises is Entrepreneur's Franchise 500.

Entrepreneur uses the same objective and quantifiable criteria to judge all companies (regardless of size) and formulate a ranked list of the best franchise opportunities. Some of the factors considered include: financial performance, growth rate and the size of the company, the number of years a company has been in business and the number of years it has been franchising, start-up costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and whether or not a franchisor provides in-house financing.

The Franchise 500 list for 2007 included business opportunities such as Gold's Gym and The Little Gym.

Gold's Gym is the number one fitness club in the world as well as an immediately recognized brand in the fitness industry. Franchisees in this system pride themselves on offering all the latest equipment and services at their gyms. Newcomers to this franchise are provided with a comprehensive training and support system that includes programs such as the Gold's Gym University workshop. This five-day, 28 class training program is designed to integrate new business owners into the Gold's Gym franchise and help them maximize the potential of their units.

The Little Gym leads the industry in children's motor skill development, making the process a fun and engaging one that builds confidence in children. This system is proud of its hands-on approach when it comes to setting up new franchises. Each new franchisee is assigned his own personal business consultant who remains available for support throughout the franchisee's tenure with the company. The franchise stays involved with its business owners because they care not only about the success of their gyms, but also about the health and wellness of children in their communities.

Other fitness franchise opportunities

If your interest in fitness is more specialized, you might consider a franchise like IM=X (pronounced IMX) Pilates Studio. This is a turnkey business that combines the muscle-toning of Pilates with cardiovascular training. IM=X stands for Integrated Movement Xercize program that adds resistance training and plyometric jumps to Pilates movements to create a more athletic workout. IM=X has been described as the next evolution of Pilates because the program is adaptable and can be made appropriate for all fitness levels. Franchisees in this system receive support in marketing, business, equipment and are even provided with yearly, on-site certification for staff members in a variety of fitness programs such as yoga and pre/postnatal workouts.

Perhaps you have an interest in women's fitness. If so, you might look at a franchise opportunity like Butterfly Life, which is a unique "one-stop-shop" for women's health. It is the only fitness franchise that currently offers free classes anytime. Classes such as Pilates, yoga, kick & jam, salsa, step, total body and Latin groove are taught by experts using Life Vision. The fitness equipment available at Butterfly Life locations is designed specifically for women to ensure that members do not plateau but instead are continually challenged. Each gym in this franchise offers its members a 15-station strength-training and cardio circuit. Butterfly Life offers a Weight Loss Express program that combines circuit training workouts with nutrition classes to produce positive results in 30 days without calorie counting or special diet food.

LA Boxing Franchise Corporation was developed with the help of world-class boxing and kickboxing champions. The physical training offered to customers at these locations is combined with nutritional counseling to help them meet their fitness goals.

Final thoughts

This limited sampling shows that there are numerous franchise opportunities available in the fitness industry. If healthy living is your passion, you'll certainly be able to find a franchise that complements your personal fitness interests. And, with the help of a franchisor's proven business plan, you'll be able to bring a healthy lifestyle to your community while simultaneously earning a good living as the owner of a gym.

Great Ways to Cut the Cost of Starting Your Franchise Business

One of the reasons a franchise business has such a high potential for success is because of all that's included in the initial cost. In some cases, the start-up cost is the same (or very close) to building a business from scratch but without all the benefits such as established name recognition, target market research and existing publicity campaigns. With so many advantages, it can be difficult to understand why entrepreneurs choose to launch a business alone. Nevertheless, some of the high costs associated with franchises can become a deterrent for prospective buyers. What many of them don't realize is that there are several options that help cut the cost.

Options for Financing Your Franchise

Many franchise opportunities come with a sizeable price tag. Few prospective business owners can afford to make such an investment without some financial assistance. Unfortunately, not all of them will have access to the necessary capital it will take to satisfy start-up costs, franchise fees, royalty fees and a loss in revenue that will continue until the return on investment finally begins. If you have a well-established credit history (free of bankruptcies and established to the point where you're considered as having enough credit), you may be able to get a conventional loan through a bank or credit union.

However, banks are typically reluctant when lending to small businesses. In reality, they rarely do so. Though not everyone will qualify for conventional loans, there are still options. If you have applied for credit to no avail, you can contact the Small Business Administration, an agency run by the federal government. The SBA guarantees a certain percentage of its loans, which puts lenders at ease because they are less likely to experience a loss. Plus, the SBA is usually willing to lend for longer periods of time and at larger amounts.

Of course, the SBA has specific criteria to determine eligibility. First, it must be a small business, which translates to less than $13.5 million in retail or service sales. Additionally, it must be located in the United States or a U.S. governed territory and only those interested in opening a for-profit business can apply. As you can imagine, this agency reviews countless applications, which means that you must handle yourself in a very professional manner. It is always a good idea to have your business plan ready before meeting with anyone regarding financial assistance, even a government agency.

However, the main disadvantage to getting an SBA loan is that the interest rate is set by the Treasury Department, which means that it is variable. Moreover, this interest rate is generally higher than those offered by conventional loans. Thus, if you can find a close friend or family member who is able and willing to lend you the necessary funds or even cosign, this is your best option next to financing on your own through a bank.

Economic Development Corporations

The federal government is not the only entity that provides monetary assistance to potential franchise owners. More and more state and county governments are pitching in with tax exemptions and other special programs. The New York City EDC, for instance, issues low-cost tax exempt bonds as well as double and triple tax exempt revenue bonds (these are technically issued by the New York City Industrial Development Agency, NYCIDA, an entity of the NYCEDC). Furthermore, this agency can even administer public loans. The only issue to consider before accepting assistance from an EDC is the fact that much of the available funding is dedicated to improving low-income or developing areas. Nonetheless, EDCs have funds available to prospective business owners like you. And, you have the opportunity to impact a struggling community. Still, before you decide to locate your franchise in such a community, make sure it is conducive to operating a profitable company.

Community Development Corporations

These non-profit organizations are dedicated to improving their local economies by lending money to small businesses. The goal here is to increase revenue and bring new jobs to the area. What's more, CDCs are well known for developing affordable housing and improving education for residents in low-income areas. Once again, you must weigh the costs and benefits to starting a business in developing or otherwise lower income sections of a town or city.

Business Development Corporations and Venture Capitalists

If you're weary of relying on public funding, you have the option of appealing to a business development corporation or venture capitalist in your territory. Returning once again to New York, its business development corporation is made up of financial institutions that pool their resources in order to lessen the risk. Rather than focusing on low-income sections of the state, this organization is devoted to helping all kinds of different businesses gain access to financing. The primary concern is to expand New York State in general.

Venture capitalists, on the other hand, are different from development corporations because they assume some ownership of your business. Because of this unique feature, they are willing to take more risks than traditional lending institutions. Depending on your specific industry and the stage of your business's development, you may be able to find a venture capitalist fund to help finance your business.

Take Your Time

While there are opportunities for financing your franchise business and dramatically reducing your initial cost, keep in mind that some franchisees use their own resources for as much as 50 percent of their start-up expense. If you can not afford that kind of investment, consider working for a couple of years and saving some of the money for yourself. If you're able to generate some revenue this way, you are more likely to qualify for a conventional loan. Otherwise, you will appear more serious to business development corporations and reputable venture capitalists. Thus, if you decide to wait after all, don't become discouraged. Instead, use the extra time to conduct additional research and perfect your business plan. Sooner than you realize, investors will be eager to take part in your project.

Trading Penny Shares Online

Buying and trading penny shares online can be very profitable. However, anything relating to shares can be a risky business so it's always important to ensure that you know what you are doing before parting with your money. The best way to minimise your risks of making a bad investment is to have a very reliable stockbroker that you know you can count on.

Penny shares get their name from the fact that they are priced so low. While this has its obvious advantages, also consider the fact that they can be high risk because these stocks usually have a short and unpredictable lifespan. This is why it is so important to ensure that you or someone else knows exactly what you're doing before parting with too much cash. However, once you know what you are doing penny shares can also be a great way of making some money.

In order to get a basic understanding of what penny shares are, all you need to know is that they are basically shares that have a low price. Typically shares may cost tens or hundreds of pence but penny shares will only cost a few pence.

The reasoning behind penny shares is that because they are priced so low, they have more potential to rise and therefore investors are more likely to buy them. Because of this every penny represents a high percentage of the share's value which means that they can be higher risk than other shares. However, because they are so low cost the effects of something going wrong would not be anywhere near as devastating as if you had invested a lot of money.

The first thing you need to do when trading penny shares online is to open a trading account. There are two ways of doing this; opening an offline account or by buying and selling penny shares online. An offline account requires a full service or discount broker and selling stocks online requires a deeply discounted broker. Finding the perfect discount broker can provide you with endless benefits such as competitive commission rates and trading facilities online.

One of the many advantages of buying or trading penny shares online is that it is a great way of getting your foot in the door with a company. This is particularly helpful if you know that the company is going to be big and make lots of profit.

How You Can Make Your Home Business Opportunity To Succeed

Some wise man has said, that home business opportunity never fails, people will fail. That has something to do with the skills and motivation of the home business opportunity owner. We all home business opportunity marketers are marketing more or less the same products, so how to make a difference to be able to stand out from the crowd?

I like the idea that everything that works well must be simple, the same with home business opportunity. This is especially true with the internet home businesses, because they are all small, niche businesses and operate in a heavy competition environment. What chances would they have if they would look like the other ones, nothing.

So the key is in the word: how. How you market your home business opportunity, which offers the same programs than the others. The answer is that you have to make the difference, the system works 100 %, because so many have proved that.

You can see the system in two parts: the role of you and the role of your merchant. Let us start with the easier part, the role of the merchant.

1. Join A Proven, Long Term And Respected Affiliate Program.
That is the easiest way to guarantee your success, because there is no doubt about whether the program works. It works. Now it is 100 % up to you, whether you can learn to promote it and to build a trusted brand into your niche. The easiest thing is that your merchant has done so much for you, which you otherwise would not be able to do.

2. Get To Know Your Home Business Opportunity Website, It Is Your Shop.
Learn all the details of your affiliate website. You have to know them, because your customers will ask about them and because you have to know what you sell, the contents of the offers. If you do not understand something, ask from the support, sponsor or discussion forum.

3. Build A Big Optin List..
The best way to collect the names and addresses for your home business opportunity optin list is through a form on your site. Only then people honestly want more information about your business. I would not recommend to buy leads.

The autoresponder, together with the optin form, builds an automatic machine which sends emails to your list along the preset schedule, day and night. This helps your own workload significantly. My email list, done by my affiliate principal, consists of 400 different emails, which will be sent to the people on my list during a time of more than 2 years.

4.Write Optimized Articles And Distribute Them Widely.
The optimized articles are, this is my opinion, the most effective short and long term way to promote your home business opportunity. It fulfils all the 5 requirements of profitable promotion: it presells, it is long term, it goes to different keyword markets, it brings targeted traffic and it raise the search engine ranking of your home business opportunity site. Huh!

5. Give Free Giveaway To Your Site Visitor.
When your visitor gives his name and email address to your optin list, it is polite to thank him by giving him a free and useful giveaway, for instance ebook, or special report.

6. Get High Search Engine Ranking For Your Home Business opportunity Site.
This is my number one way to get constantly free targeted and organic traffic, day and night, every single day. How do I do it? Well, the main role belongs to the optimized articles. I pick one keyphrase for the article and write it into the title, teaser, body and especially in the about the author box.

Now the search engine spider sees, that this keyphrase is linked with my url in thousands of article directories and websites. This means that my site becomes more and more popular and gets more traffic. This guarantee my home page a higher search engine result page ranking. As you see, the success is basically very simple. Just Do It!

Castle Ownership Not Just A Delusion Of Grandeur

Always put your money into bricks and mortar mgrandparents used to say to me. With the population exploding with immigrants and new properties springing up in the smallest of building plots with ever increasing prices, it's not so easy to get a foothold on the property market.

To find an investment property is equally as difficult as just finding the standard two up, two down to live in. With a shortage of available properties, many people are looking into alternative properties to invest in.

House boats, lighthouses and ex local authority buildings are quite common purchases when looking for somewhere different to live. But how about considering a castle? Forget Count Dracula. Castles are not the cold, austere places that fiction portrays them to be. They have been home to families since the beginning of their existence and most have been updated along the way to provide modern facilities.

Castles of various different sizes, prices and states of repair are available in the UK, Scotland and are in abundance in Europe. Not just a place to live but also a way of earning a living, many have been converted to hotels with conference facilities.

Privately owned castles often hold functions and weddings and these can be made a speciality for a very comfortable income.

But to start with let's take a look at the purchase of a castle as an investment property.

There are many companies around who, for a reasonable fee, will assist you in finding your dream property, particularly in Europe where castles are in abundance.
Since the fall of the Berlin wall, many areas and opportunities have opened up for people wishing to own beautiful old properties set in some of the most outstanding landscapes in the world and stuffed with history.

Companies in Germany will assist with your purchase of a castle and its renovations from your first inkling of interest through to completion of any repairs and even management of turning it into the business that will pay for the building itself.

Once you express an interest in buying a castle, they will establish what size of property you are looking for, your budget and what type of business you would like it to evolve into. They will then compose a list of possible properties. Parts of the package they provide are available separately but if you are a novice at this then it is wise to use an expert.

They will take you on a viewing trip around the castles, are able to consult on purchase, condition and renovation including all costings. They will research the costs in conjunction with the purchase such as notary and attorney costs, official permits and licensing costs.

The right help is also available to assist with grant applications in the case of renovations that need to come in line with standards set by Denkmalshutz (Departments of Historic Preservation). You can request that they develop and draw up architectural plans and that they oversee all works on your castle. Particularly helpful if you cannot be in the country all the time.

A castle is, no doubt, a major purchase but as it can be your truly impressive home as well as your business it is certainly worth considering as an investment property.

For the smaller budget with the same big ideas, a converted church is also a sound investment property. Unusual properties hold their value better than the average property. Many churches in and around the UK have already been converted but there are usually around a thousand or more churches on the UK property market at any one given time, in various states of repair and conversion.

It is important to look into any covenants that may come with the purchase of a dis-used church. It doesn't happen very often but in the past some Methodist churches were sold on the strict provision that no alcohol would ever be consumed on the premises!

On a much smaller scale than a castle, the purchase of a church will still provide you with the history of an old building. With details such as large stained glass windows, gothic arches, high vaulted ceilings, elaborate stonework and bell towers you still get the authentic feel as well as the accompanying grandeur but without the price tag of a castle.

If you're looking for a worthwhile investment property, you could do worse than opt for a castle or church.

How Your Internet Home Business Opportunity Benefits From Article Marketing

What may be the most interesting is that the article marketing is free, if you do not set any price for your own work. But it has many real benefits for the home business opportunity, most of them with the long term effect.

To put the benefits into the nutshell there are three: targeted traffic, related backlinks for SEO and brand building. These all your internet home business opportunity will need. The instant traffic comes from the article directories and email links, the residual traffic from high se page rankings and the brand building happens step by step during a long period of time. As you see, the benefit pack of the article marketing is big.

One of the traffic sources, which is important comes from the websites, which have copied your article into their websites and thus recommend it to their own site visitors. As you understand this traffic grows step by step but is very useful, because it is based on the recommendation of other related internet home business opportunity website. Some of the sites will get your article trough RSS, via syndication, but in any case this takes time.

You see, despite of the fact that the quality is king, it is also in the article marketing, but the real long term benefit comes from the many backlinks the articles bring to the site. Backlinks are like votes from other sites to your internet home business opportunity site and search engines respect them and the more you have the better ranking they will give to you. The target should always be to reach the first position at a give keyword. Here the quantity is the key.

To win the top place on the result page of a given keyword is a competition, where you have to beat the present leader and your main weapon is the number of backlinks. Nobody really know how the search engines set the sites in a certain order on the result pages, and they change the rules every now and then, but what we know the backlinks are the most important factor. There is also the quality factor, i.e. how many related backlinks the linking sites have, but on that factor we cannot influence so much, because anyone can copy our article and paste it to his site.

The volume factor is the reason for the backlink wars, because so many home business opportunity marketers are looking for keywords, where they have possibilities to rank well and some effective tools are available for the analyzes on this area. A part of this strategy is to follow the situation of your internet home business opportunity site and support your positions by writing more articles or to turn to the more promising keyword.

Another important thing is to think like an article reader. What useful and fresh information your article can offer, which will solve some problem or offer new chances for his home business opportunity. Here the quality is really the king, because if the articles as such brings technical benefits, high rankings for instance, a quality content makes the reader to copy the article and come back regularly to copy even more useful articles.

The quality content is in the long term the only way to build the brand, a trusted image, and to stand out from the crowd. Of course the bad, useless content works in another way round, it builds bad image and your business will suffer.

The combination of big volume, competitive keywords and useful content will result to the best result for your home business opportunity. This combination needs planning but is relatively easy to make, when you take into account the need of the target group, the search engine requirements and will write always to your readers. They will build your brand and buy your products, not the search engines.

Big Ideas For Your Marketing Network

Many people go into a new business venture with dollar signs in their eyes. They dream of turning their new career in to one that provides them with a million dollar a year profit. As most of us know, this dream is rarely a reality. Often you hear advertisements that guarantee to help you turn your company into that million dollar making business if you purchase their book or video.

In actuality, all that happens is that you spend twenty-five dollars on a new decoration for your coffee table. Having an unrealistic expectation of what you will accomplish with your network marketing company can lead to added stress and strain on your part. It is important to realize that to reach any kind of profit, it will take plenty of dedication and time to making it a better company. You will not receive a fortune without putting forth a considerable amount of effort.

Companies that empower a multi-level marketing strategy are slowly increasing in popularity. For these types of companies to work appropriately, there have to be the same number of employees selling the merchandise as there are bosses over seeing the production.

If you have too many people in charge, you will find that there are not enough people selling the product to turn over a high enough profit for anyone to have a sustainable income. Likewise if there are too many employees and not enough higher ups, they could be a problem with having to divide the profits between too many people and again no one will be able to make a sustainable enough amount to make a living.

Choosing the appropriate style of network marketing for you can help you to reach a little closer to your million dollar mark than other companies might. It may be beneficial for you to be involved in several multi-level networks at the same time. One network may not be able to help you reach the necessary income that you are in need of, where as two or more together will increase your profitability of a livable income.

If you decide not to venture into your own business, but choose rather to join a marketing network that is already in place read all of the available information on the company and the leaders that are involved. If the company sounds too good to be true, then it usually is. Try to find a company that has been in business for several years, as the probability of going bankrupt is considerably lower after a three to five year period.

Be weary of companies that sell you on the idea that you are not required to sell their products, only add other recruits to the business. Keep the types of profits that you will make in perspective. The only real way to make more money is to dedicate yourself to selling the products and not waiting for others to hand the money to you. You are the best judge of character regarding the type of company that you work with and how best to make a living with this job.

Top Franchises for 2007

Once you've done your research and decided that buying a franchise is the business opportunity for you, you will, of course, have to select the franchise in which you want to invest. Your choice will undoubtedly be based on many criteria, not the least of which is potential for profitability.

There are many resources available to help a potential franchisee choose the franchise that is the best fit for him.

For example, Entrepreneur ranks franchises annually in their Franchise 500 list. Entrepreneur judges all companies (regardless of size) on the same criteria. Objective and quantifiable data are used to assign each company a cumulative score, and the companies earning the highest scores then become the Franchise 500 list.

Some of the factors considered include: financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the company, number of years in business as well as number of years franchising, start-up costs, litigations, percentage of terminations and whether a company provides financing. All of the financial data considered is audited by an independent CPA to ensure accuracy.

The top ten of this year's Franchise 500 included companies such as The UPS Store/Mail Boxes Etc. This is the largest franchisor of retail shipping, postal and business service centers in the world.

UPS acquired Mail Boxes Etc., Inc. in 2001, and in 2003 the two companies introduced The UPS Store. This company has enjoyed massive growth that included 500 new locations in the first year alone. By 2004, the company had over 5,000 locations. The UPS Store/Mail Boxes Etc. has been designated as the number one franchise opportunity in the postal and business services category of the Franchise 500 for 16 consecutive years.

Another ranked list of franchises is The Franchise 50 Awards. This list is compiled by the Franchise Business Review, which is a national franchise market research firm that conducts independent surveys measuring the satisfaction of franchisees. Since profitability is a major factor in whether or not you'll be satisfied with a franchise, The Franchise 50 Awards list is also a good tool to use in your decision-making process.

Included in The Franchise 50 Awards top ten for 2007 were companies such as FASTSIGNS, Synergy HomeCare, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, i9 Sports and CertaPro Painters. The Franchise Business Review also ranks franchises in 16 different industry categories. For example, earning top honors in the automotive category was Matco Tools.

FASTSIGNS
This company provides custom signs, graphics, banners, trade show exhibits and vehicle graphics using the best computer technology available. FASTSIGNS boasts nearly 500 locations worldwide, and they are continuing to grow. The average per store gross sales reported in FASTSIGNS 2006 UFOC was $620,000.

Synergy HomeCare
With more than 34 million people over the age of 65 currently residing in the U.S., the demand for non-medical, in-home care is at an all-time high.

Synergy HomeCare provides comprehensive training for new franchisees to ensure success in this rapidly growing industry. New franchisees in this company are each assigned a franchise start-up representative to guide them through the start-up process. A pre-class workbook is provided to assist franchisees in completing the research necessary to successfully operate in their local areas. After this is completed, new franchisees attend a five-day training program at Synergy HomeCare's corporate headquarters.

Synergy HomeCare also provides ongoing support to their franchisees in these additional areas: staffing, marketing, software and intranet.

1-800-GOT-JUNK?
This junk removal franchise has grown by over 500 percent in the past three years. This is a young company that is poised to dominate a newly developed niche market.

This company is actively seeking franchisees who will adapt well to its "work hard, play hard" corporate culture. Ideal candidates should be aggressive, results-oriented people who are excited about long-term growth and who exhibit strong leadership capabilities.

i9 Sports
i9 Sports operates youth sports leagues, camps and after-school programs for children ages 3-14.

This franchise has a low start-up cost in addition to classroom training and a franchise support coach. Franchisees in this system enjoy the freedom of dictating their own working schedules because these businesses are operated directly from franchisees' homes.

Each franchisee is granted an exclusive territory to maximize the potential for long-term growth in this huge market. Organized sports are played by over 100 million Americans, but many are disappointed in the poorly organized sports programs available to them locally. This franchise offers a great opportunity to meet a community need.

CertaPro Painters
Home services is a $100 billion a year industry, and this franchise offers you the opportunity to be part of that industry by providing both residential and commercial customers with full service painting. CertaPro also offers specialty painting services such as faux finishes.

CertaPro has been in business since 1992, and they offer a comprehensive initial training program. This company also encourages and facilitates strong interaction between franchisees through a national convention, regional meetings and business planning groups.

Matco Tools
This franchise manufactures and distributes professional automotive equipment, tools and toolboxes. Their product catalogue boasts over 13,000 items including hand tools, power tools, diagnostics, tool storage, heavy-duty tools, shop equipment and OEM-specified service tools. The product offering is updated on a continual basis to ensure availability of the latest tools.

This franchise differs from others you may have researched because there are no franchise fees, ongoing royalties or advertising fees. Starting the business does not require the purchase of expensive real estate, and you won't need to hire any employees.

Matco Tools offers start-up financing through an in-house department as part of a comprehensive support system that includes: Matco Distributor Business System (MDBS), Matco Customer Service Support Team, Matco Distributor Advisory Council (MDAC), national advertising and racing support.

Final Comments
So, you can see just by this very short list that the possibilities with franchising are virtually limitless. There are many franchises that are consistently outperforming the rest in terms of profitability and franchisee satisfaction, and you can use the tools discussed in this article to find out which ones they are.

All that's left is for you to decide which franchise is the best match to your personal business style.

Knowing Which Home Business Is Best For You

The key to knowing which home-based business is most suitable for you personally is to have a hand in creating the opportunity. This allows you to rapidly distinguish which areas of business work in a suitable manner and also prevent business scams that are so often linked to work at home opportunities. Asking yourself what areas of business interest you is a major help in making the right choice.

Self Searching For Personal Skills:
Take some time to sit down and ask yourself what you personally have to offer in the business world. Do you have any specific talents, skills or abilities that can be applied to making your business grow and succeed? It is necessary to know what skills you possess or what areas of interest you would be prepared to learn more about in order to make the smartest business choice.

Using skills or talents that come naturally can provide you with an advantage against those in your competitive market as they may be in learn as they go processes. Knowing about your strengths and weaknesses by asking yourself personal questions will allow you to compare these areas against business opportunities to see what pieces of the puzzle fit together to make a complete and successful home business.

Supply And Demand Balance Check:
Once you have a clear understanding of which area of business to peruse you want to do some research to ensure that there is a balanced level of supply and demand. You may be interested in selling a product or service but if there is too little product or too little need or desire for the product you are setting yourself up for failure.

If you find that it is safe to continue to the next step, research prices of product competition in your market. If your prices are too steep you will drive customers to your competition and if your prices are too low you will go out of business rapidly. No profit equals, no business.

Patience Is Key:
Do not feel overwhelmed or pressured, as beginning a home business is a life changing event that takes well thought out planning and time. Patience is key to setting up your home-based business in the right direction for premium success. Understanding the area of business you wish to become involved in can make the transition from a career outside of the home, into the home a more fluid process.

If you have to begin your business in a stop and go motion due to being unprepared prior to your transition, you may find that your choice to jump into a home business becomes a mistake that you will regret in the future. Go slow, think about each aspect of the business with patience and consideration and your end result will be a business that you know without a doubt is the right home business for you. It's similar to the moral of the fable of the tortoise and the hair.

Slow and steady wins the race and you will find that this is the case in business as well. Taking your time in the beginning of the business will ensure that you last the race to become successful in the end.

Graduating With A Plan Of Action

You should ask yourself if you know what you want to do, and if you have a plan of action for turning the opportunities into reality. The old adage that a quick route from point A to point B is a straight line is very true. Setting goals for searching for a job and launching your career can be somewhat similar, if you carry it out in a methodical manner. It is always better to avoid deviation from the goals you have set as far as possible.

Things To Do

The first thing you need to consider is the type of job that interests you the most. There might be several career opportunities in your field, depending on the degree you have. For instance, if you have graduated as a nurse you can get a job in a clinic, hospital, nursing home, school, childcare center or private practice. Even though you will be employed within these settings, you can also work within various units like maternity or pediatrics. After this, you will have transitional opportunities as well. After trying your hand at the nursing profession, you may realize that it is not exactly what you expected it to be.

In that case, you can either consider pharmaceutical sales as a new career, or opt for a more flexible career like business management. The main factor is to make the decision about that direction you are planning to head towards, and learn as much as you can about that field. Sometimes people spend a lot of time, energy and money and still remain doubtful about what to do. It may be possible that you know what you want, but are not clear about it. No matter how many possibilities you explore, you may never get excited.

In fact, if you are feeling depressed and downright frustrated, then there is no need to worry, because it might not be as bad as you think it is. Just keep in mind that there is no need to start at the top, or even commit to any employer. Avoid putting too much pressure on yourself. All you need to do is to test the waters before deciding to go ahead full steam. The first year after school can also be spent discovering what exactly it is that you really want to do. If you do this, then there are chances that your mind will be open to new possibilities, and that you will develop a positive attitude towards life. Make sure that you do not waste time, and set weekly goals. You can make use of this year for finding out what you are interested in doing. Once you are sure about it, do it in a well-planned and proper manner.

In order to explore career opportunities without the assistance of a career counselor or job coach, you need to do a lot of independent research. If you do not like a particular area of your industry, you can always get in touch with professionals to request for an information interview to find out more about it. After deciding on your field of interest, get your resume professionally written and post it on major job boards, or contact a recruiting firm in your area of interest.

Selling Cosmetics and Other Beauty Products Part Time

Many factors will influence a person's decision to begin selling cosmetics in a retail store, and others will make a personal commitment when they decide to sell cosmetics and other beauty products to family, friends, and other people that they have had personal contact with on a day-to-day basis. Selling in a retail environment allows people to earn a second income, and selling cosmetics as a consultant is a way for some to operate a home business.

Each method of selling cosmetics part time will require a certain amount of personal time because there are many products to sell and the consultant is often considered to be the cosmetic specialist and is expected to explain the characteristics and benefits of all the products they offer. Without this knowledge, customers are less likely to buy the products and the part time earnings will not be substantial enough to earn an income or pay for the products they have purchased from a distributor.

A beauty consultant might begin selling cosmetics part time and find that the customer base is so broad and the interest in the product is so high that they earn far more than they expect in the first six months. This level of confidence in the products they sell could make them change their game plan a bit, and add other people to their company that will make money selling cosmetics part time.

If the product brands are well established, the company might have a training program in place that will introduce each newcomer to the products they sell. Every cosmetic brand has a full product line of cosmetics and a beauty consultant will have a lot to learn in a short period. There are many artistic expectations that originate from customers and a beauty consultant will be expected to have a firm grip on artistic ways that each type of cosmetic in the product line can be used.

While selling cosmetics part time, the beauty consultant might spend a day or two experimenting with the tools and accessories that are used to apply cosmetics to the face. Other days might be spent wearing fragrances and noticing the subtle differences between each bottle that they have in their carry case. A beauty consultant is expected to wear the products that they sell on a part time basis and they must be ready to discuss the effects of wearing it everyday.

Selling cosmetics on a part time basis can be very time consuming because some customers are not able to shop or place orders until after they have returned home from work. Many women want to form a personal relationship with the person who sells them cosmetics because wearing cosmetics is a personal issue and the buyer must trust the person to help them make the right choices.

No cosmetic purchase is a good choice if the person is unhappy with the product and fails to wear it. Even part time salespersons know that if the product is not used, the beauty consultant cannot expect the person to order it again and without orders, a beauty consultant cannot expect to remain in business for very long. A professional beauty consultant will take the time to ensure the customer orders cosmetics in the right skin tone and will make sure that the customer thoroughly understands how to apply the product.

Keep Plans To Work At Home Simple

During periods of high unemployment many people wish they could just stay home an get paid. Likewise, some parents would like to be at home with their children but would have trouble making ends meet without the second income. With all the work at home opportunities on the internet it would seem that everyone who wanted to work at home could, but as with many possibilities, not every that glitters is gold.

Network marketing is the key to a company's growth in a global marketplace and unfortunately, many people toss the phrase around like a ping-pong ball but have no real idea of what it means. They have a basic understanding of marketing, but marketing through a network is beyond the comprehension of many, however that does not stop them from taking advantage of a work at home's job that allows them time with their family, to be independent and make a lot of money.

The reality is that marketing even just one website takes a lot of work and a lot of research. Knowing who to contact and who the prospective customers are can be challenging at best, or nearly impossible at worst. Many people are sucked in by slick online advertising about working part-time for more than full-time wages and working their own hours that they forget that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Stuffing envelopes and easy home assembly works have been quietly slipping away as people who have lost a ton of money on these jobs have realized their mistake and are now working on being a successful network marketer whatever that is. Internet businesses come and go at an astounding daily rate and working at home for one of them is similar to a plant closing in the traditional world. Even independent contractors are going to be out of work when the plant shuts down.

When looking for opportunities to work at home consider it is called work for a reason. The best opportunities are ones that a person can come up with on their own. Someone with a hobby or a lot of experience in a given field can find others interested in type of products they make or services they can provide. For example, a person who enjoys crafts and is good at making different types of items can open their own online business selling their handmade craft items.

Handing out business cards and posting small ads on bulletin boards in town is a great way to create awareness and once word gets out, the business can grow. They can also meet with others in the same type of business and perhaps share the cost of advertising to help boost both businesses. It allows them to remain independent and work when they have time while still taking care of their families.

Many of the home-based businesses, once they experience a modicum of success begin reaching for the stars and in some cases overextend their abilities. Making promises that cannot be kept and failing to deliver products when promised is one of the most common reasons for home-based business failures.

Making Money With Affiliate Marketing

For anyone who has ever thought about opening their own shopping mall, affiliate marketing may be the answer. Being able to open a facility with several different stores offering a diverse range of products can invite a wide assortment of visitors. In order to attract tenants to the mall, instead of charging them rent, try collecting a percentage of their gross sales and see how fast the stores fill up with qualified tenants.

Be careful when signing deals as there will also be some fly-by-night companies wanting to set up shop in the mall as well as some offering goods and services that may not meet the standards of the community in which the mall is located, likely driving potential customers away to other shopping centers. All the mall owner has to do is advertise its opening and offer marketing help to the tenants in order to bring traffic through the front door and into the mall shops and the business will soon be booking for everyone.

This has worked well in many brick and mortar shopping malls, except for the part about the free rent and the store owners do not pay a percentage of their sales back to the mall owner. With an online shopping mall and affiliate marketing, anyone who can set up a website can own their own shopping mall. Many different stores under one roof and the mall owner collecting commission on every sale of every store.

This is how affiliate marketing works. Store allow affiliates to post ads on their website and if a customer comes into their store by way of that website, they pay a commission on the sale. An online shopping mall can create a unique opportunity to create several streams of income, providing the owner maintains the store cleanly and seasonally correct. Affiliate ads will have offer timely merchandise from quality online stores of the visitors will stop showing up.

Additionally, the online mall owner will have to keep the site fresh and marketed online and possibly offline as well, to draw as many visitors as possible. Making sure the online stores owners live up to their end of the bargain with the customers will also help maintain the integrity of the mall. Mall owners have to watch every store carefully to make sure the ads they are running in the mall remain current.

If a store is not drawing visitors from inside the mall or after several months there have been no sales from the store despite a large number of visitors, the mall owner has the choice to stay the course and hope it gets better or canceling their deal and finding another online retailer to take its place. With no advertising costs, most businesses are open to affiliating with an online shopping center.

However, a shopping mall that offers 20 or more shops that specialize in the same type of merchandise will probably be confusing to the customers and non-productive to most of the store owners. They may not want to be under the same roof as the others and ask to be removed from the online real estate.

Creating New Real Estate Income Generators

It's odd that people love to brag about their net worth at the same time as they complain about needing more cash flow. Of course, when they get more cash flow, the complain about having to pay more taxes. Each of these topics are important for different reasons.

Net worth is a measure of wealth. After tax Income determines lifestyle, so learning how to create income without learning how to keep it from being eaten away by taxes does little to improve lifestyle. They go hand in hand. For now, let's look at ways to create more income; first when buying and selling, and then as long term investors.

Probably the most effective way to create more income buying and selling houses is to be able to increase the number of houses bought and sold in a given time period. This is controlled by the availability of houses, and the financing that's available to non-owner occupants.

In recent months, with foreclosures mounting, lenders have tightened loan underwriting standards to that it has become much more difficult and expensive for a non-occupant to finance a house. This has two completely different effects. It reduces competition from other buyers and, at the same time, increases competition among sellers of properties that need to sell. The net result is that they are much more willing to listen to unconventional financing schemes than in the recent past.

There are many ways to arrange seller financing without the use of banks, but the most efficient way to buy houses for sale is not to buy them at all. Rather, with only a minimal earnest money deposit, enter into a contract to buy a house at a discounted price, then sell the contract for a profit to an owner/occupant who can get financing. This uses up very little cash and virtually none of your credit line, yet the profit is comparable to actually buying and selling the same house. When you can buy Options, you can afford to put less down and increase your volume without increasing your investment or risk.

Some lenders are now posing "seasoning" restrictions that require a seller to have owned a property for several months prior to selling it to someone else who would apply for a mortgage. As the Option holder, at closing, your buyer would be buying directly from the
long term owner, who would use some of the loan proceeds to buy back your Option, or to induce you to cancel it. Voila; no seasoning problem.

Some States have placed severe restrictions on people who take title "Subject To" a loan, but an Option that calls for a full cash payment legally skirts this problem. Some States don't want a person to "flip" a contract, in that case, once the buyer has gotten to the closing table, you can use your buyer's money to close your contract, have the house deeded to you, and immediately deed it to your buyer. This can cost more because of recording fees and document preparation, but it still offers a way to generate cash when you need it most.

10 Reasons Why Starting a Home-Based Enterprise is a Smart Move

Owning a business is the ultimate American dream. Being your own boss represents a type of freedom that isn't obtainable with a traditional nine-to-five. But knowing you want to be your own boss isn't enough to change your current reality. You have to know what type of business you can realistically go into. It should make sense for you and your interests, and it should be an affordable investment that won't put you into deep debt.

Most people who toy with the idea of starting a business look to franchises, and for good reason. Franchises are turnkey systems that allow owners to jump right in and follow the formula that has already been laid out. The downside to franchises is that they usually come with hefty price tags. While there are some franchises priced under $10,000, the average franchise in the United States sells from anywhere between $20,000 and $30,000. Big ticket franchises are priced upwards of $100,000, and these figures are just the franchise fee alone. That doesn't include other startup costs including construction and retail space (depending upon what type of franchise you buy into), legal fees, supplies, insurance, payroll or marketing and advertising. So if you're an average person living paycheck to paycheck, coughing up that kind of money isn't an option.

Others consider businesses they can start from scratch based on an existing skill they already possess. For example, a young woman who is very talented at styling hair and transforming a woman's appearance would consider attending cosmetology school and opening a beauty salon. While a promising business, the problem is that even though it doesn't require an upfront franchise fee, it does require the purchase or lease of retail space to conduct the business, all of the initial startup fees mentioned earlier plus paying for a license to conduct business.

With such financially-limiting options for the average person, getting a slice of that American Dream Pie seems hopeless. But it isn't. There is an affordable way to be your own boss, set reasonable hours and experience financial freedom without the large investment. It is through the direct sales/network marketing vehicle.

A model that has been in place for over 100 years, direct sales, also known as network marketing, is a viable option that was embraced by 15.2 million people in 2006 according to the Direct Sellers Association. Here are 10 reasons why direct sales/network marketing is so attractive:

1. AFFORDABLE - In most company structures, the investment to start your own home-based business is usually less than $1,000, with the actual administrative cost of getting started with the company a lot of times being less than $100. Where the additional cost factors in is with starter kits depending upon the type of business you invest in. Companies that specialize in nutritional supplements or beauty and skincare products for example, have varying levels of starter kits that range in price.

2. FINANCIAL FREEDOM - Unlike the traditional work model, you set the standard for your financial future. By leveraging your efforts with the efforts of others, financial independence is attainable faster, with virtually no limits.

Home Based Customer Service Opportunity

In recent years, there have been increases in home based customer service positions for the public. These positions offer the convenience of the home environment and the added benefit of a flexible schedule for the home customer service. The traditional call service usually offers representatives from $8 to $9 per hour and the home based representatives typically make $13 to $15 per hour wage.

This higher pay benefits both the company and the home representative due to fewer costs in call center rent, utilities and computer equipment. The only requirements for the home representative is a computer system, some type of internet service, usually DSL and a LAN line. There are some variations in the specific position titles for home customer service. Some companies considered these people actually employees while others may be independent contractors.

In most cases, the position consists of the latter designation. Independent contractors are often required to maintain their own records and tax responsibilities. These courses are often completed in a short time and the representative is given a user identification and password to the customer service site where the calls are sent to provided home number of the representative.

Most companies stress that an independent contractor is expected to maintain a professional manner during every call as if the person is in the actual call center. You Need To Be Your Own Boss

Are you working your body to the bone trying to make enough money to stay afloat? I know I am. My wife and I both work a minimum of forty hours a week to support our family. We love our kids to no end, but we don't get to spend half the time we'd like to with them, because we work so much.

It seems that no matter where you work, as long as you are working for someone else, it will always be the same scenario, not in the literall sense, but isn't this basically the scene between you and your boss?..." Gee, Mike, I sure am glad you were here to catch all that crap, cuz otherwise it would have gotten on "" my "" floor! " Or how about this one?... " Wow Melissa, you are really doing a great job putting up with all those angry, grumpy, customers, otherwise "" I "" would have been embarrassed and insulted! "

My point is this, when you work for someone else, you are teaming up with many other people to make your boss rich, and do all the dirty work so that he doesn't have to.

I have worked as a machinist on and off since 1990, it's really a good job, I love doing it, and out of all the different jobs I have worked in the past, fast-food, car-wash, house-painting, grocery store, small engine mechanic, retail stores, etc. there's really nothing I would rather do because I am always learning something new.

I make parts for helicopters, jets, submarines, various engines, satellites, I have even worked on some of the parts that are on the space station, and that is quite rewarding to me. I have always worked very hard at every job I've been to, always advanced very fast, and I have always taken a great deal of pride in being a hard worker, but no matter how good I do, or how high I advance, as long as I'm working for someone else, I will never reach my goal of being my own boss. I will always be working very hard and making twice as much money for my boss as I am making for me.

There are many good benefits to being your own boss, you can wear whatever you like, wake up when you want to, you decide when you show up and clock in, you call the shots, you decide when you get off work, go to lunch, etc., etc. The list could go on and on.

Not only that, but when you own your own business, you suddenly have a whole new world in which you do your taxes, there are many great tax benefits that you can't claim unless you have your own business, your computer, your chair, phone, desk, lamp, portion of your house that you call your office. You can increase your tax return drastically.

So how do you become your own boss? Well I can tell you this, it won't come easy, you'll have to go get it. I don't know what position you have achieved in life, but at some point you will come to the realization that if you want something you'll need to go out and get it.

The chances are slim to none that someone is on their way to your house to tell you you have won the lottery, publisher's clearing house, reader's digest sweepstakes, etc. Bla Bla Bla! I'm sure the mail-man is on the way, but do you think he's bringing the bags of money?? I didn't think so.

Network Marketing is one way, and it's a sure fire way, it's not a get rich quick scheme, avoid those. You can spot those really easy, they start like this, "first step is to send us a large sum of money," enough people do that, and guess what, someone is getting rich quick, and it's not you.

You want to get into a business that has a great product where you need to buy a monthly amount, a company that is not moving product is going under soon. Your product will need a great marketing system, otherwise the business you are in won't be around for very long. You also definitely want the product to be something you can use

To be your own boss will take some work on your part I won't lie to you. It's not for everyone, some people are perfectly happy being the employee, I'm just not one of them. I am totally thrilled about the idea of thousands of people from all over the world putting their efforts together to help each other to become their own bosses, and achieve financial freedom, which is basically the way Network Marketing works.

Are you one of those people that wants to go out and get it? Or are you waiting for "Ed McMahon?" Are you ready to take some risks? Dou you have what it takes to go places? Or will you just tell yourself that you don't have it? How bad do you want it? These are some questions you will have to ask yourself.

Listen Friend, I may not know you personally, but I can tell you that you deserve to have the finer things in life just as much as the next person. It is possible. The people that are out there doing it are not "supers," they are people, and most of them didn't start out with success in their lap. They are just ordinary people that wallked out on that limb, took a chance, worked smarter, instead of harder, and pushed themselves. You can do it, too, I promise you that you can.

I'm Faron Gray, I'm not a guru, and I'm not a genius. I'm working smarter instead of harder to achieve my goals. If you think you've got what it takes, Take the tour of my business at http://www.farongray.com
